Fired domestic returns to work

2018-03-08 06:00

A BHOBHOYI woman who took the body corporate she worked for to court on charges of harassment and racial discrimination, has returned to work after property owners in the complex protested her dismissal.

On January 25, Fever reported that Joyce Cele, a domestic worker at a holiday apartment complex in Shelly Beach, took the complex’s body corporate to court following a dispute with its manager that allegedly led to harassment and racially discriminatory slurs directed at Cele.

Cele claimed that the dispute started after Cele caught the manager letting out some of the apartments at the complex for her own monetary gain without the owners’ consent. She says she then reported the manager to the owners who then confronted the manager. She said the manager used a racial slur on her and had her removed and banned from the complex.

Last week, Cele told Fever that she has since returned to work due to insistence from some of the property owners in the complex.

Cele, who was employed by the owners, said they were not impressed by the ban and insisted the body corporate allow her to return to work.

She said court proceedings against the body corporate continue and she will be appearing in court tomorrow.
