WATER supply frustrations in some communities, due to frequent water service interruptions and those of the municipality generated from the demand outstripping the supply capacity, will soon cease following the implementation of the Umzimkhulu Bulk Water Augmentation Project on 8 and 15 September.

This upgrade of the Boboyi Plant is a response to the lingering supply shortages that have, for many years, negatively affected supply to the Murchison, Bhomela, Gamalakhe, Nyandezulu, Nositha and surrounding area communities.

This multimillion-rand project is being implemented in two phases.

Work has unfolded in the first segment with the upgrade of the Boboyi Water works from 54 ML/day to 81 ML/day.

The second phase of this project will also be implemented in the current financial year and will entail a further increase of the water works from the 81ML/day to 103 ML/day in order to adequately cater for peak periods.

The affected communities will be pleased to know that upon completion, this water works will now have enough water to supply the system and communities will finally receive the long awaited water supply.

It is our view, as the municipality, that water is life and as a caring water services authority, we shall continue to provide our communities with this basic right.

It is therefore imperative that as a water services authority, we strive to perfect the provision of water by getting the basics right.

We will continue to work hard to identify methodologies and implement plans that ensure the municipality’s supply systems are equal to the supply demand and the Ugu District community has access to an uninterrupted water supply.

Ugu District Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for our communities.
