Five arrested for robbery

2016-01-07 06:00

FIVE men were arrested on Monday after robbing a 30-year-old man who was walking in Deepvale Road under the freeway bridge.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the men approached the victim and threatened him.

“They said they would stab him if he screamed. They took his cash and ran away,” said Wiid.

Port Shepstone K9 unit members and POP members responded and searched for the suspects who reportedly ran in the direction of the taxi rank, and three were arrested.

“Police searched for the remaining two and saw them close to the entrance of the bus rank. When police tried to apprehend them, the suspects allegedly threatened them with knives,” she said.

Wiid said the police then fired warning shots and both were wounded, one in the leg and one in the hip. They were arrested and taken for medical care.

The five suspects are now under investigation for a spate of robberies which occurred in recent months in the freeway area where motorists who stopped there or pedestrians were attacked and robbed.

“We will investigate to see if they can be linked to all those robberies,” said Wiid

A case of robbery was opened.
