Former MM to assume acting position

WITH the recent reshuffling of staff after the amalgamation of the Ezinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast municipalities, it was known that the former Ezinqoleni Municipal Manager, Mandla Mabece did not have a new position in the municipality.

At a media briefing at Ray Nkonyeni Council Chambers on Tuesday Mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu confirmed that because it was clear that at the new Ray Nkonyeni Municipality there were fewer the posts for Section 56 employees of the former Ezinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast municipalities, the then political change management committee resolved that the incumbents be considered for the district municipality and its entities.

“It is against that background that the Ugu District Municipality requested that Mabece be seconded to the Ugu South Coast Development Agency as the acting chief executive officer as from 10 August.”

Mqwebu said while this was agreed to by the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, it was however, requested that he assists in administrative issues relating to the closure of books for the former Ezinqoleni Municipality until the end of October.

“The period requested for the Mabece to finish his administration duties is coming to an end and this therefore means he will be assuming his task as acting CEO of the Ugu South Coast Development Agency with effect from 1 November.”

She said Mabece will be paid by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality for the duration of his contract, which will end early next year and SCDA will reimburse the municipality.
