Fun films to hit the big screen in 2017

2017-01-12 06:01

THREE films to hit the big screen this year promise to delight children as much as adults.

Next month, Lego and Batman fans will get to watch The Lego Batman Movie.

Hitting cinemas on 10 February, Lego Batman stars in his own big-screen adventure, after The Lego Movie became a worldwide phenomenon.

This time, to save the city from The Joker, Batman has to work with others and learn to lighten up.

The cast includes Will Arnett as the voice of Lego Batman Bruce Wayne, Zach Galifianakis stars as The Joker, Michael Cera as the orphan Dick Grayson, Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred.

Nineties children's television show Power Rangers gets a remake for a release on 24 March.

Newcomers in the film industry RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludy Lin, Naomi Scott, and Dacre Montgomery play the colourful team of teenagers with powers, who are on a mission to save the world.

Directed by Dean Israelite, the film also stars Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

Chosen by destiny, the Power Rangers discover they have to overcome their real-life issues to save the planet from an alien threat.

Later in the year, Sony Pictures Animation presents animated comedy Emojimovie: Express Yourself, which unlocks the secret world inside your smartphone.

Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where favourite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user.

Each emoji has only one facial expression, except for Gene (T.J. Miller), who was born without a filter and with multiple expressions.

Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (voiced by Emmy and Tony award winner James Corden) and the code-breaker emoji Jailbreak (Emmy nominee Ilana Glazer). Together, they embark on an “app-venture” through the apps on the phone, to find the code that will fix Gene. Emojimovie: Express Yourself will be released on 11 August. - Supplied.
