Gamalakhe Sassa office open

2017-04-27 06:02

MANY people have been left stranded with nowhere to go to register for a government pension, social grant and other services, which the Department of Social Development and Sassa in Marburg provide.

Due to the ongoing strike, the gates of the offices have been closed for over a month, and people have not been notified in this re- gard.

However, Sassa offices in Gamalakhe have opened. Previously communities were told that Gamalakhe only services areas that fall under the Margate cluster and the Marburg offices services areas within Port Shepstone. Bhobhoyi, Marburg, Albersville, etc., however, Gamalakhe Sassa office manager Thembekile Shongwe has confirmed that people can go to the Gamalakhe offices.

“Since the strike we have been getting people from different areas and we are providing them with services as we are aware of the Marburg office closure,” said Shongwe.

No feedback has been received from Department of Social Development or Sassa on the progress of the strike and how much longer their offices will be closed.

According to Nehawu leadership Department of Social Development has not yielded results so the offices will remain closed.
