OWNED and operated by family since 1976, it’s no surprise that Gayridge Poultry Farm in Margate has earned its good reputation for selling the best quality chicken products.

Customers don’t only get top-of-the-range products, they also get great customer service from the staff at all their branches including chicken warehouse stores in Margate taxi rank, Izingolweni and Bizana.

The business was started by Jack Caple and was passed on to his son Jon. Jon has worked hand in hand with his dad as long as he can remember and has learnt his business skills from his “old man”.

“Every weekend and the school holidays were spent working with my father. He taught me to work hard and never give up, even in difficult times,” said Jon.

Gayridge has seen some changes over the years, but only for the better, ensuring customer convenience and satisfaction.

Three outlets - Margate, Izingolweni and Bizana - have a shisa nyama. The red meat products are supplied by another household name, Michael Frey’s Fresh Meat.

“We opened the shisa nyama in Margate in November 2015. Customers choose their meat, which is then braaied in the braai area outdoors. There are also tables and chairs for them to enjoy their meal at,” said Jon.

That’s not the only progress the Margate branch has seen over the years - basic grocery products as well as fresh produce are also sold at the store, making it a mini one- stop-shop.

“In the next few years we would like to open more branches like this on the South Coast.”

Gayridge brands are 100% chicken, meaning it has not been injected with brine and are Halaal certified.

“However, the store does carry other brands of chicken that is sourced from all over South Africa.

“We also import directly from Europe to offer customers a wide range of chicken, at affordable prices,” said Jon.
