PORT Shepstone Lions, Lion Ladies and guests celebrated the club’s 46th annual presidential induction on Saturday 25 June at the Port Shepstone Country Club.
Club president Jeff Smith paid tribute to the Lions and Lion Ladies for their outstanding community service and fund-raising efforts throughout the past year.
The Lion of the Year Trophy was awarded to Jean Masson in recognition of his outstanding leadership of the 2015 South Coast Lions Show project.
President’s Appreciation certificates were awarded to Lions Gary Vogt for organising and running a successful 2015 Lions Golf Day fund-raiser, Lion Brian Eva for his commitment to running the club’s bar, Lion Denis Meyer for public relations, Lion George Leggett for his secretarial duties during the past year and club treasurer Richard Borradaile for looking after the club’s finances during the past year. The Stirrer of the Year trophy was awarded to Lion Ralph Gallagher.
Outgoing Lion Lady president Anita Hulley praised the Lion Ladies for their ongoing projects in support of the needy and presented gifts to Ladies secretary Audrey Leggett and treasurer Jane Massey.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of A Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest award in Lionism, to Lion Alastair Warman in recognition of his tireless and ongoing commitments to both service and fund-raising projects.
A Louis Halse Humanitarian Award, the highest in the district, was also presented to Lion Lady Betty Bing in recognition of 37 years of dedicated service to the Port Shepstone Lions Club and the community.
An additional plaque was presented to council chairman elect Meyer in recognition of support, motivation and mentorship provided to club president, Jeff Smith.
A total of 19 club members were awarded for 100% attendance of club meetings throughout the past year.
