Hibiscus Coast Challenge coming up

2016-03-31 06:00

ENTRIES have opened for the second Hibiscus Coast Challenge.

The challenge is hosted by the South Coast Striders and will take place on 27 April at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

Increased sponsorship this year sees Striders partnering with Hibiscus Coast Municipality to put on an even bigger event – and in addition to a higher profiling of the event, this also means prize money has doubled.

The event is an official Comrades qualifier, the 48km ultra marathon, a 24km run for those wanting something less challenging and then the popular 10km.

The route combines all the visual treats the Hibiscus Coast has to offer, with the start and finish taking place at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

From rural back roads to scenic farmlands and beachfront sea views, participants will need to press hard to keep their energy for the long uphills which head inland into Gamalakhe, before heading back to the sports centre to the finish line.

This year’s event promises to attract an increased number of runners and is putting the South Coast on the map as one of the key marathon destinations.
