THE Hibiscus Kennel Club was very honoured to host a birthday party for a six-year-old Grade R pupil from Izotsha Primary this month. Her name is Charli Aron and she has an absolute heart of gold. This little girl decided that rather than her friends bring gifts for her they bring something that can be donated to the SPCA. The children responded well and there were bags of dog food and treats and a few toys as well. In return each child took home a goodie bag and a “puppy”.

The club in turn show cased our training so there was a flyball, tricks, agility and an obedience demonstration. Pat de Korte put the children through their paces before sending them off to hunt for items dogs need.

They returned with food, water bowls, treats, leads and collars etc and then little Charlie, Sharon Derman’s Yorkie showed everyone how to score a goal. He uses an aerobics ball so imagine the scene. That same ball was soon whizzing across the field with the children running behind.

Charli had a beautiful cake resembling a dog’s face and whoever made that cake needs a round of applause. We do have a programme geared to Grade R so schools are invited to contact us. We would prefer the school to visit the club rather than the club visit the school but if that is not possible we will accommodate to the best of our ability.

We welcomed new members again this month and are very pleased to see that. So many ex members are returning. The flyball has become very popular and we wish to thank Karen Salhus for assisting Desiree Grutter with this as she certainly cannot cope on her own.

It is good to see Whoopie, belonging to Rob Carter back as he was very sick having contracted Parvo. He was up to date with all his inoculations and still managed to pick up this deadly virus. Thank you to his vet and Rob’s care he is almost as good as new. A good pet owner will soon notice that their animal is “different”. Go with your gut feeling and take it to the vet. It’s a better option than hindsight.
