THE Hibiscus Kennel Club is very proud of two of its members and their very clever dogs. It is so good to see that although we live way down on the South Coast, we are still able to hold our own against the city folk.

Well done Renate Haussmann and Forrest, for obtaining their provincial colours in carting, and to Mein Schatz for being presented with Top Achiever for the fifth year running, also in carting.

Our little Agility champ, Swish, and his mom Ninette Smith, were awarded provincial colours for both Contact and Non-Contact Agility.

Both these members are very committed to their sport and are reaping the awards.

Obviously members are feeling the heat as attendance has been low but we assure you that apart from Agility and Flyball, we are managing to find enough shade and are tweaking our techniques without too much movement, thus we are all doing very well at two-minute stays and send-aways and our socialisation skills are great. Hope to see everyone back soon.

On Sunday February 11, we had a fun Agility morning at the club and were joined by a few non-members. The course was of international standard so there were plenty of DQs but we had a great time and will definitely be doing it again soon. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Last weekend, the dog world was rocked by the abandoning of three adult dogs and seven four-week-old pups.

Their owners were leaving the area and the dogs were unwanted. Thank you so much to caring people who took these dogs in and have found homes for five of the pups and one of the females. We believe one of those pups will become a member of Hibiscus Kennel Club, which is great news because he will have a great life.

Please be responsible and sterilise your dogs and try your very best to take your dogs with you when you relocate. They would not leave you behind. Animal shelters are bursting at the seams with unwanted animals.
