THE Sa Re Ga Ma Music School which falls under the banner of the Port Shepstone Hindu Youth Society was proud to have their young and talented singers make history recently, when they launched their CD, Bhakithi at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.

The leader and founder of the group Vernon Govender said that the community came out in their numbers to support the group of youngsters, aged between eight and 16 at the time of recording.

“The audience was treated to a musical spectacle from both our local artists and the Luxmi Stars band who backed our artists with their soul stirring music as well as dance items by Jishnavi Govender and Shiksha’s Dance Academy all the way from Durban.

Caide Lander performed a freestyle hip hop and dance moves which are evident for his national colours for the art of dance. Fazlyn Naidoo, who got the golden buzzer on SA’s Got Talent also motivated the group with her melodious singing,” said Govender. Govender said that the event was also graced by Lotus Fm DJ’s, Mala Lutchmanan, Veena Lutchman and Vijayluxmi Balakrishna who emceed the programme.

“The group mesmerised the crowd and etched themselves into the hearts of all that were present. It was also an honour to have MEC of Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravi Pillay as our revered guest as well as Dr Raj Govender of the Department of Arts and Culture.” Govender was also proud to launch his fourth CD dedicated to the late Mrs J.P. Naidu (Mogie), which featured songs from the North Indian devotional classics. “The society would like to place on record it’s sincerest thanks and appreciation to the South Coast community for always supporting our events.

“We are indeed proud to be surrounded by such a supportive and caring community that always puts our children and the Indian culture first.” CD’SBhakthi & Geethanjali are on sale and also DVD’s of the show can be purchased from our officials and students.
