Investigation into municipality’s missing millions is complete

2018-07-05 06:00

INVESTIGATIONS into the R35 million allegedly lost to irregular spending during the merger between Ezinqoleni Municipality and Hibiscus Coast Municipality has come to an end.

Speaking at a media briefing at the municipal council chambers on Tuesday, the municipal manager said investigations into the impending saga are finally complete and Cogta is now compiling a report which should be finished by the end of July.

He said the municipality is not yet aware of the contents of the report and will not be able to divulge any information with regard to it at this stage.

“The municipality is in receipt of the report from the KZN Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs indicating that verification of the project has been finalised and the report has been forwarded to the Cogta Forensic Team for processing,” said RNM Mayor Nomusa Mqwebu.

She said that due to the fact that the investigation was initiated by the MEC, it will have to first be approved by her before it can be presented to council and the public.

“The final comprehensive investigation report will be presented to the Ray Nkonyeni municipal council at the July council meeting for consideration and a decision on the findings and recommendations,” said Mqwe-bu.
