Jazz festival organiser to assist bands

2016-06-16 06:00

UGU Jazz Festival organiser Cyassounds Holdings has pledged to assist jazz groups under the Mzantsi Jazz Association.

This was announced at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday night when the association held a session in remembrance of the late Greg Nota, a Fever journalist, a member of the Mzantsi Jazz Association.

Willie Mgcina of Cyassounds said their aim is to mobilise jazz groups from across KwaZulu-Natal.

“Cyassounds aims to make Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre the home of jazz. The Ugu Jazz Festival has been going for some years and working hand in hand with the jazz association would be one of the greatest relationships we could have with local jazz bands,” he said.

Mgcina said bands from their respective areas should form committees and have leadership and bank accounts so Cyassounds can see they have order, and from there they can assist them financially and in other ways.

“We commit ourselves, as Cyassounds, to assist the bands. Whenever they have a small jazz event they can call us to assist,” he said.

Cyassounds offered discounted tickets to band members at R200 a ticket.
