The year 2018 has been a very successful one for the WKF Karate Ugu region. Each year, two tournaments are held and the last one for this year took place on Saturday November 3.These tournaments give all kareteka from the nine affiliated dojos in Margate, Port Shepstone, Scottburgh, and Unzimto an opportunity to compete at sport karate level, enabling them to learn, participate, and enjoy the martial art of Karate. Ages ranged from six years to adults with all belts competing for medals that were awarded to first, second, and joint third places. WKF Ugu Karate would like to express their appreciation to Karate KwaZulu Natal Chief Referee Rodney Govender who travelled down from Durban and officiated at the tournament, ensuring the high level of karate at the event.A note of thanks goes out to all parents who assisted as table officials.A selection process will be held to choose a WKF Ugu Karate “All Styles Elite” team, consisting of brown and black belts, to compete at next year’s Karate KwaZulu Natal All Styles Elite Championship. If successful, the team will achieve Karate KwaZulu Natal Colours and compete at the Karate South Africa all Styles Championships later in the year. Only affiliated WKF Ugu Karate dojos may participate. The organisation is very proud of their region and their students, and look forward to an outstanding 2019.For information on karate in the Ugu region contact Shihan Frank Moodley at 072 553 3362. — Supplied.
