Karatekas celebrate accomplishments

KARATEKAS from the South Coast took part in the Kanazawa Cup, which is one of South Africa’s premier karate tournaments in Uthongathi recently.

More than 600 karate students from around the country fought for top honours in various categories.

Shotokan Karate-do International South Africa (SKISA) trainer Sensei Frank Moodley said Port Shepstone karateka Jehryn Moonsamy received two bronze medals in kata and kumite. Moonsamy also earned his first dan black belt. Ayushman Kalicharan earned gold in his division for kumite, while Revaak Harripersadh also earned his first dan black belt.

Guest of honour was Japanese two-time world champion, Murukami Manabu Shihan, an eighth dan black belt. – Supplied.
