MUSIC and art enthusiasts showed up at the Imvula Poetry Session held at One Eyed Jacks in Margate last Thursday.

The sessions, which are held bi-weekly in Margate, bring unplugged live music and poetry for an artistic feel to a Thursday evening.

While the sessions originally started out with just poetry they have evolved to incorporate other forms of performance arts including soulful music, jazz and sometimes a bit of rap.

Nonetheless the standard of performances is first grade and features celebrated artistic virtuosos.

One of the organisers from Margate, Thobeka Mkhize said the show has seen a tremendous amount of growth since its inception.

“We are very proud of the growth of the sessions. What started out as just a small gathering among friends has turned into the number one thing to do on a Thursday night in Margate. It is also a great platform for artists to showcase their talents, as some of our artists were discovered right here on our stage by influential players in the industry,” said Mkhize.

She said artists seeking to showcase their work on the Imvula stage were welcome to communicate with anyone of the organisers who include herself, Lloyd Cele, Kagiso “KG” Miya Sifiso Nxumalo and Lungelo Mavundla by visiting their Facebook page Imvula Poetry Sessions.

The next session will be on November 15.
