Males over 14 invited to circumcision campaign

2016-04-14 06:00

PORT Shepstone Regional Hospital is inviting males from the age of 14 and over to attend a circumcision campaign on 16 April, starting at 7am at the outpatient department.

Hospital spokesperson Phumza Morai said the campaign is aimed at reducing the risk of contracting and spreading sexually transmitted infections including STIs and HIV.

Morai said being circumcised reduces female partners’ risk of getting cervical cancer.

“On the day patients will be provided with information on various health conditions. They will be given information that will include taking care of the wound at home, follow-up visits, HIV testing and TB screening,” said Morai.

Morai said circumcision will be conducted by well trained medical practitioners.

“Males under the age of 18 are encouraged to come with parents for consent purposes,” she added. - Supplied.
