A MAN (26) was shot dead on the street near Ezinqoleni Shopping Centre on Saturday.

Police said at around 3pm the man was walking on Old Main road in Ezinqoleni when the suspected confronted him and shot him in the face.

“Ezinqoleni SAPS received information and proceeded to the scene where they found the victim had died as a result of the gunshot.

“A suspect (49), was identified by a witness and while trying to run away he was arrested,” said Margate SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka.

The firearm, a .38 revolver and three rounds of ammunition were confiscated by the police. The suspect appeared in court on October 23 and his case was remanded for seven days for a formal bail hearing.

Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson Leutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid said the accused was also charged for possession of an unlicensed fire arm and ammunition as the serial number of the revolver he allegedly used, was filed off. He remains in police custody.
