Mashaba turns to Mabena to replace injured Ndlovu

BAFANA Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba turned to Platinum Stars’ Ndumiso Mabena to plug the hole left by the injured Dino Ndlovu. Mabena joined the team earlier this week, and his club coach Cavin Johnson was chuffed by the former Pirates man’s recognition for a fine season which has seen him score seven goals in Dikwena’s impressive season. “He’s been doing well and deserves it. The national coach has seen his ability and, as a club, we are happy for him,” Johnson was quoted by KickOff. “If you look at the big games we played against Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs where we had to change and play different tactics, Mabena has had the ability to adapt to playing a different role, and I have no doubt he will settle in very well and play any role needed,” said Johnson. Mabena will join fellow new boy Prince Nxumalo, Bournemouth’s inactive Tokelo Rantie and Thamsanqa Gabuza in leading the attacking line against Cameroon in a must win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Anele Ngcongca sat out this week’s training session as he recovers from an abdominal strain, while Thabo Matlaba did not complete it due to his injured toe. However, in a promising sign, Andile Jali was able to train on his own as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder. — Sport24.
