ON the evening of Thursday, September 6, the Esayidi Rapid Incubator and Singatha ICT Incubator hosted a successful masquerade dinner at the Margate Hotel to celebrate women in business from the Lower South Coast.

A total of 80 women were treated to a stylish three-course meal whilst celebrating through music, dance and inspirational talks, which were given by women from different sectors within the business community of the South Coast.

Throughout the evening, programme director and consultant at Esayidi Rapid Incubator Phumelele Bohlela emphasised the importance of working together and removing the mask of judgement and “PHD” (pull her down syndrome), to work collaboratively in creating a sustainable business environment by supporting each other as women through business skills development, compliance and financial knowledge.

All the speakers referred to their personal and professional experiences as women in business.

The keynote speaker, Jobina Mark of Singatha ICT Incubator, summed up the insights through a powerful talk referencing the ongoing women empowerment movement she launched earlier this year, Vuk’uzithathe neHoney B, which focuses on the healing of the mind, body and soul of a woman in order to be successful in her business.

The evening was concluded with an awards ceremony where deserving winners were acknowledged by the management staff and guest speakers.

Fun awards for Best Dressed, Early Bird, and Listening to Instructions kicked off the awards ceremony. In the formal awards, Ugu District Young Women Structure walked away with the Business Women of The Year, Gamalakhe Community Development Foundation took Community Builder of the Year Award and Sthembile Nxumalo (Singatha 2017 Graduate and founder of Yonwabanathi) won the Young Entrepreneur of The Year Award.

“As a business support centre for small business, innovation and entrepreneurship, we wanted to celebrate women from different walks of life in the business community. They work so hard and hardly get the recognition they deserve. Our aim tonight is to treat them to an evening of fun as we encourage them to keep on playing their part in the transformation of our socio-economic environment,” said marketing and administration officer of Esayidi Rapid Incubator Jobina Mark in her opening address.

Esayidi Rapid Incubator and Centre for Entrepreneurship is a business incubator based on the Port Shepstone Campus of Esayidi TVET College that supports and assists in the development of growing SMMEs.
