THIRTEEN Umkhonto we Sizwe military veterans were arrested on Tuesday for the illegal occupation of the Masinenge Slums Clearance Project houses now under construction.

During the early hours of Tuesday morning, police arrested 13 people between the ages 39 and 54 years. They also seized four firearms and 84 rounds of ammunition at the Masinenge Slums Clearance Project houses.

Margate SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said the occupiers were charged with a Contempt of the Court order to vacate the premises. “During the operation the police arrested a 46-year-old man who was in possession of two 9 mm pistols and 45 rounds of ammunition.

The police proceeded to another house and arrested a 49-year-old man who had a pistol with 26 rounds of ammunition. The third suspect, a 52-year-old man, was found in possession of a glock pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition,” said Margate SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka.
