UGU Municipal Manager DD Naidoo’s contract has been renewed for three months.

The decision to reappoint Naidoo was taken at a council meeting last Thursday after his contract expired on Thursday August 31.

According to legislation that governs the appointment of municipal officials, his contract can be renewed monthly until a new manager is been appointed.

Naidoo was appointed Ugu manager in 2012 when the municipality was reported to be bankrupt.

Despite being disliked by some employees, it is believed he is one of two candidates the municipality is considering for the post.

An inside source said between Naidoo and Vuyiwe Tsako, one will be pronounced as the new manager.

Tsako is currently Ugu’s general manager.

Another informer told Fever the municipality was likely to reappoint DD and Tsako might take over Umdoni Municipality as municipal manager.

“It is very tense at Ugu. If one of them is appointed, no one will respect them as they are playing some dirty tricks on one another,” the source said

Naidoo has been in a hot seat mainly over consistent water challenges in the district.

Naidoo confirmed to the Fever he is on a month-to-month contract.

Ugu spokesman France Zama also confirmed that Naidoo’s contract has been only extended for three months

“The candidates were interviewed, now we await the finalisation of the appointment of the new municipal managers,” said Zama.
