WITH a number of pedestrians being knocked down by motorists every day when crossing roads, South Coast motorists continue to be negligent at the “zebra crossing” in Bazley Street in-between the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and the Gereformeerde Kerk.

The road is extremely busy in the morning when patients make their way to the hospital and have to duck and dive between taxis and cars on the road. Every morning the Fever reporter sees this and is at times also a victim of such behaviour.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesperson Simon April said motorists are aware what is expected of them when they come across a pedestrian crossing.

When asked about putting a law enforcement officer at the spot April said it is impossible that a law enforcement officer is stationed at the crossing full-time, however, he said from time to time law enforcement officers are deployed on the spot.
