LOCAL township beauty pageant Mr and Miss Gamalakhe, founded in 2012 by PhumlaniM Foundation (PMF), has been renamed due to its success and growth over the years.
Founder Phumlani Mzobe said the pageant was initially limited to only a few communities, but from this year they aim to attract entrants from all over the district.
The pageant will now be called The Face of Port Shepstone Beauty and Lifestyle Event.
He said models from Bizana, Umzinto and Mtwalume had also shown an interest in participating in the pageant.
Mzobe said they are now looking at drawing models from all over Ugu District and neighbouring areas, including the Eastern Cape.
“We will be drawing models from Umzinto, Scottsburgh, Pennington, Dududu, Umzumbe, Umtwalume, Ray Nkonyeni, Ezingolweni and Harding,” he said.
He said the pageant is not only about beauty, it is also about showcasing the best in the fields of beauty, fashion, business, fitness, a healthy lifestyle and other art forms.
“We will be introducing a fashion theme this year and three image consultants will be dressing and styling patrons with the hope of winning a prestigious prize,” said Mzobe.
The event will also have a red carpet and photo booth at the entrance.
The pageant takes place in May, and training will be provided for first-time models.
The categories are females 13-16, 17-23 and 36 upwards and males 16-25.
