BROWN, muddy water is on the list of complaints from residents on the lower South Coast once again.

On Thursday morning a number of Oslo Beach and Margate residents became angered at the Ugu District Municipality for failing in their duty to provide clean drinking water.

“This is shocking. Why is the water so dirty,” asked one resident. “We are told to drink this water supplied by Ugu,” she added. A few residents say they do not drink municipal water for the same reason.

Spokesperson for Ugu District Municipality, France Zama, said broken pipes in both areas were the reason for the dirty water.

“In Margate it was established that the cause was a result of broken pipelines in these areas. Teams were then dispatched to fix the problem,” he said. “It is thought that it was during this time that dirty water came from the taps, but thereafter clean water was restored after the systems were scoured,” he added.

This week Uvongo residents had the same experience with dirty water.
