A 23-YEAR-OLD suspect, Sonwabile Njakazi from Masinenge, was convicted in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Friday for crimes he committed in various areas around Margate.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Njakazi was linked to various cases of house breaking and rape.

Njakazi pleaded guilty to all the cases a day before his conviction.

“Njakazi was charged for a house robbery and rape case that took place in Margate in December last year, where he raped a 68-year-old women and assaulted and robbed her of her cellphone, cash and food.”

Njakazi was sentenced to life for the rape of the elderly woman and 15 years for house breaking and robbery.

In another crime Njakazi committed in Manaba, he raped two students, assaulted another and robbed them of three cellphones, cash and clothing.

Njakazi pleaded guilty for this case and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for breaking into the student’s flat and 10 years for each of the girl’s rape.

“He was sentenced to an additional three years for the assault of the other student,” said Mfeka.
