IT was a day of jubilation on Wednesday at Harding’s Umuziwabantu Municipality Council as representatives from the office of the auditor-general officially announced that the municipality had obtained a clean financial bill of health for the third time in a row.

The municipality has received clean audit outcomes in the 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 financial years.

Umuziwabantu Municipality Mayor Dixie Nciki said commitment and dedication from municipal officials and unity in the Council are the reasons they receive clean audits despite other challenges they face.

“Our officials perform very well, even though we have not had a chief financial officer for the past 24 months. It is our councillors who are playing an oversight role,” said Nciki.

She said that another thing that enables the municipality to keep receiving clean audits is that officials are given space to do their work and there is no interference.

Meanwhile, the mayor promised the communities that the municipality will fulfil its commitment to deliver services to them even though the budget is insufficient. “What makes me happy is that with the little money we have, we try our best to spend it wisely. Come June 2018, there is a lot of development that will be observed by our communities,” said Nciki.

She promised to maintain proper governance to ensure they receive the same clean audit outcome in the next financial year. The process of employing a new CFO is ongoing.

Umuziwabantu municipal manager Sazi Mbhele said the municipality is very good at sourcing skilled and capable managers.
