Municipality explores service delivery acceleration initiatives

2018-05-24 06:01

IN an effort to create an enabling environment for the achievement of a well-developed district, our municipality will host three momentous events aimed at improving our infrastructure, economic and technological opportunities for better service delivery.

On 22 May 2018, our district will host the Ugu District ICT Summit 2018 which is the first of its kind for the district under the theme, “The role technology can play in the delivery or acceleration of Municipal Service Delivery through e-Governance”. The aim of this summit is to explore, deliberate and comprehensively discuss various ICT opportunities which can have an impact on service delivery. This summit will unpack challenges to municipalities relating to water and sanitation services and electricity among others.

Following the conclusion of the IDP and Draft Budget Road Shows for the 2018/19 fiscal year and taking public comments on the budget into consideration, I will be delivering the Ugu District 2018/19 Budget Speech of the people’s service delivery budget of R1, 1 Billion on Thursday, 24 May 2018 during the sitting of the Ugu District Council Meeting. The budget speech will be broadcasted live on Ugu Youth Radio 93.4FM from 11 am. We invite the Ugu community to tune in and listen to the municipality’s plans on service delivery and other special programmes aimed at combating the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Poverty alleviation has become one of the district’s service delivery priorities and as part of the ongoing struggle to create a better district for all, our municipality will host the District Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) Summit where key stakeholders will engage and resolve on strategies that will ensure sustainable economic growth thus responding to the triple challenge phenomenon of poverty, unemployment and inequality whilst promoting environmental sustainability and development.

The two-day summit will be from 14-15 June 2018 and will see the participation among others of stakeholders from the business sector, civil society and community leaders.
