RAY Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) and its municipal manager Max Mbili have been nominated for the 2017/2018 Premier’s Excellence Awards .Five municipalities and municipal managers respectively are nominated in this Premier’s Excellence Awards within KwaZulu-Natal Province and RNM and Mbili are among them. RNM and Mbili have been nominated in the categories of Best Run Municipality of the Year and Best Municipal Manager respectively for the year 2017/2018. To be eligible for the nomination the two were shortlisted by an independent panel of assessors and moderators based on the performance of the municipality during the 2016/2017 financial year.Speaking at a media briefing on at the municipality’s council chambers on Tuesday, RNM mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu said the criteria used by the panel was based on the Back to Basics Programme, Audit outcomes by Auditor-General and the Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP). “The assessment and moderation process were based on the performance of all municipalities within KwaZulu-Natal and information was sourced from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,” said Mqwebu. “Adjudication among the five shortlisted municipalities is done by judges who visited the municipality, conducted interviews and sought practical and documented evidence on the aspects mentioned above,” she said. The Awards Ceremony for the Premier’s Excellence Awards will be held on 12 July 2018 at Durban ICC starting at 6pm. The municipality is also hosting its Mayoral Community in honour of people making a contribution in their communities tomorrow, Friday June 29, at the De Roches Hotel in Margate at 6 pm for 6.30 pm.
