Municipality spokesperson’s wall comment misleading

2015-11-26 06:00

I AM the owner of the property pictured in the article that appeared in “Cracked wall very dangerous”, which was published in the Fever last week and I wish to point out the following:

• The wall in question is not part of my building and was constructed by the municipality as part of their retaining structure of the adjoining bank.

• This wall has been collapsing since 2014 and I have been in contact with the municipality since then.

• Repeated communication with the Department of Human Settlements and Infrastructure in Marburg have borne no fruit (I can provide the trail of e-mails if required).

• I conveyed all this information to a representative of the municipality who called me last Monday.

• The collision that occurred with the truck, referred to in the article, only made a bad situation worse.

Given the above, Simon April’s comment that the “business owner should take responsibility” is both disingenuous and misleading.
