Municipality to invest in golfing skills project

2016-10-27 06:00

THE Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) is to sign an agreement with Margate Country Club for the training and development of youth in golf.

RNM Mayor Nomusa Mqebu said the municipality is prepared to invest R250 000 in this project as it aims to ensure and distract young people from performing criminal acts.

The agreement will ensure that participants in the programme are continuously developed in order to attain professional golfing skills.

The partnership will also ensure the promotion of golf among boys and girls from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as assist them with coaching and equipment.

“Currently 10 youths are receiving training and coaching under the auspices of Margate Country Club.

“We are, at a later stage, hoping that the number will increase to 50 and will accommodate all seven clusters of the municipality,” said Mqwebu.

The municipality will sign the agreement on 4 November at a ceremony at Margate Country Club.
