New app for voiceless children

2018-03-22 06:00

CHILDREN’S welfare is a number one concern for parents, and it is often taken for granted that when they are at school they are safe from the harshness of the world.

This, however, may not always be the case given the fact that in many cases, children suffer in silence rather than voice their pain in fear of an unwanted re- sponse.

With the introduction of the Anonymous Reporting App for Schools by the Guardian, this issue can be eliminated.

Coming at a very small cost to schools, the app allows children who have been victimised to report anonymously any crimes against them without the fear of victimisation or a backlash.

“The app serves as a tool for pupils who are being victimised in any way, from bullying to sexual assault.

“These children do not have to fear being picked on for coming forward as this is an anonymous process,” said project manager at the Guardian, William Dyer.

Stressing the importance of the app, Dyer said that it can serve as a safeguard for those children at school and help prevent further transgressions against them.

• schools are able to find out about issues sooner, thereby are able to deal with the issues before they become too big;

• it breaks the “don’t tell” culture in schools;

• pupils can download the app for free;

• the identity of the reporter is removed from the report and the school receives the information and can manage it internally;

• it provides for better and more open communication with the anonymous reporter;

• it is convenient and easy to use;

• it has the ability to identify trends and warning signs; and

• prevention.
