THE Democratic Alliance has announced that Councillor Samkelo Ndwalane has been elected its Ugu South constituency chairman.

Ndwalane is currently serving as a proportional representation (PR) councillor in the Hibiscus Coast Municipality and serves an area that includes Bethania and Nyandenzulu.

“He has proudly served the DA and the community as a councillor since 2011. He has also served the constituency in other roles before his election to the important role of chairman.
“He is a pastor in his church and a member of the Ndwalane royal family,” said Jenny van Rooyen, DA constituency officer.

She said the party’s previous chairman, Councillor Dave Watson, was recently elected to the DA Kwa-Zulu Natal's Provincial Management Committee (PMC) at the provincial council in Pietermaritzburg.

“He continues to remain a DA councillor in Hibiscus Coast Municipality.
“We wish him well in representing our area at the PMC,” said Van Rooyen.

The rest of the DA leadership in Ugu remains the same. Constituency political head is still Dr Rishigen Viranna, also in the provincial legislature, and Councillor George Henderson is vice-chairman.
