New name confirmed for both municipalities

IT’S official - the new municipality’s name will be Ray Nkonyeni Municipality after local elections in August,

municipal manager Max Mbili told councillors and media at a council meeting on Tuesday.

KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa Dube-Ncube has confirmed the de-establishment of the Ezinqoleni­ and Hibiscus Coast Municipalities.

The new formation requires 71 councillors, of whom 35 would be proportionally elected, and 36 ward councillors.

There will be 13 full-time councillors, - Speaker, mayor, deputy mayor, eight Exco councillors, Chief Whip and chairperson of the municipal public accounts.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will be in the current building of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality.
