NEW Louisiana Primary School principal Thabani Memela, formerly the deputy principal, said he has big plans for the school.

Memela said since his appointment he has seen the school grow from 500 pupils to just over 700 and feels that for a school to achieve a good performance, it has to have an energetic leader.

“I am an energetic person and feel that my school is growing academically. I have big plans for it.”

Memels’s short-term goal is for his pupils to be computer literate and for many of them to pursue a career in engineering as he strives to make maths one of the priority subjects.

He said his qualifications will lead the school to greater levels.

“I am a qualified teacher with a senior-primary teacher’s diploma, a diploma in education specialising in maths, a Bachelor of Education (BeD), honours in leadership, specialising in maths and science and a Masters of Education in Curriculum Studies. I feel my qualifications put me in the position to take the school to a better level,” he said.

Memela said although the school is a low-fees school it needs sponsors and support with infrastructure as the school is growing and asks businesses to assist Louisiana Primary where they can.
