No news on chicken farm

INVESTIGATIONS into the Southport chicken farm are at a critical stage and the SPCA says it cannot divulge any information on the matter at this stage.

“The investigation is at a critical stage and we can unfortunately not supply any information on the case at this stage,” said manager Michael Muller.

Muller and his team received a complaint two weeks ago that chickens were left to starve at Wandering Star Farms.

Last week Muller said the unhealthy chickens, which were ridden with disease, will be culled. It is unknown how many chickens were culled since more information cannot be rendered. The last consignment of feed was delivered on 23 March.

The owner of the farm was given R15 million by government in 2010 to start the farm. The main purpose of the chickens was for egg-laying, but some were slaughtered and sold as “live”.
