IT’S that time of the year again where well-deserved fun and excitement is due and the South Coast has just the right activities and events to keep holiday makers and residents alike entertained all month long.

Pioneers of the South Coast experience have also personally confessed that this summer Ugu South Coast Tourism have announced that the 2018 summer is going to be the best the coast has ever seen.

In welcoming holidaymakers, Ugu South Coast Tourism CEO Phelisa Mangcu invited them to an unforgettable summer.

“We are thrilled as always to host visitors on our beaches and inland with a great diversity of fun-filled activities and events. Our establishments are geared to make each experience the best under the sun, giving our visitors the best summer break they’ve ever had,” said Mangcu.

Amid all the festivities however, safety is still just as important cautioned the South African Police Services.

Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson Captain Petros Mpinge said the public was warned against carrying large sums of money during the holidays

Rather, he said citizens should consider other options including carrying as little cash as possible and consider making use of cellphone banking and internet transfers to pay accounts or ATMs to conduct banking.

“We are concerned after recent incidents where people are robbed of their cash or even injured in the process. This guidance has been issued to prevent such incidents in future,” said Mpinge.

“We would also like to warn all stokvel members to take extra precautions when dealing with large amounts of cash as these types of cases are very prevalent during the festive season when members are sharing money. Stokvels are advised to arrange with their banks to deposit cash into their accounts,” said Mpinge.

The festivities on the coast officially commence this weekend with a special Margate Student Fest for students before all the families arrive with Beach Sport Zones, Chill Lounges and Energy Bars December 7 and 8 at Margate beach.

Next weekend on December 15 the first ever South Coast carnival emceed by the much loved Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo, followed by the annual South Coast Homecoming picnic featuring 100% home grown local talent the very next day. Also Island Tribe turns up the heat this summer by kicking it off with the ‘Island Tribe Beach Festival’ at Ramsgate Beach Dec 15-17, St Michaels Beach Dec 20-23 and Scottburgh Beach Dec 28-31.

DSTV CARTOON NETWORK will also again be on the KZN South Coast with their character meet and greets and loads more on December 21 at Ramsgate beach and December 22 at Margate beach. See page 30 for more not to be missed events this December.
