Opposition party releases candidate lists

2016-06-02 06:00

THE Democratic Alliance released it’s candidate lists for both Hibiscus Coast and Umuziwabantu Local Municipalities on Friday.

The candidates went through a vigorous selection process by the Democratic Alliance.

“Our DA values ensure that all of our public representatives are ‘Fit for Purpose’ and have their community’s interest as their highest concern,” said Dr Rishigen Viranna, Constituency Head: Ugu South.

The selection process began in 2015 with the submission of an extensive application form.

This was followed by an online test. Aspirant candidates were then interviewed by an electoral college and a selection panel.

The panels comprised of DA members elected from DA branches across the Ugu South Constituency as well as senior DA leaders.

The selection process is transparent, fair and open for all candidates, members and supporters of the Democratic Alliance.

This is to ensure that all candidates have the equal opportunity to excel and to ensure communities across municipalities that their candidates are fit for purpose to serve them.

“In the Democratic Alliance, we celebrate the diversity of our municipality. Our candidate list includes candidates from all community groups and areas within municipalities. Our candidate list is the most diverse when looking at race and gender representation, with the inclusion of rural candidates into electable positions,” said Viranna.

He said the residents of Ugu South Constituency (Hibiscus Coast, Ugu and Umuziwabantu municipalities) are facing massive challenges in poor service delivery, lack of housing, increasing crime levels, rising unemployment and lack of investment.

“Ratepayers are also getting little benefit and service delivery for their rates. These problems can be laid at the door of the current incapable ANC councils,” he said.

“We are confident that we can provide the residents and voters of Ugu South Constituency a stable, experienced and caring set of candidates to fulfil the aspirations of quality service delivery, job creation and the end to corruption,” he added.
