Outstanding pupils recognised at prize-giving

PORT Shepstone High School held their annual school prize-giving at the school recently. Pupils who excelled in their academics and sporting activities were honoured.

Among those honoured was Mellisa­ Dumela, who received the Oscar Nero trophy for good fellowship. Although she is unable to use her left arm fully, she has proven that she has the ability to reach for the stars.

DUX of the School 2018, who received the Ray Nkonyeni Certificate in Recognition for Achieving Academic Excellence, was Ashmi Lautan. Other awards were as follows:

ACADEMIC HONOURS — (Aggregate 85% for Seven Best Subjects) Shasmir­ Jagesser, Ashmi Lautan, Caitlin Wood, and Luca Weber.

ACADEMIC FULL COLOURS — (Aggregate 80% for Seven Best Subjects) Jarod­ Jacobs, Ezekiel Naicker, Divina Naidu, and Jordyn Nel.

Eighteen pupils received merit awards and a further 17 were awarded subject trophies in academics.

Basketball Trophy (For Most Improved Basketball Player) — Musa Madlala (boy) & Asekho Ndlebe (girl)

Curnow Garrun Insurance Group Trophy (For Cricketer of the Year) — Brinley de Bruin

Team of 2003 Award (For Footballer of the Year) — Mlulamisi Khowa

PSHS Golf Champion — James Coull

Ruth Mack Memorial Trophy (For Perseverance and Dedication to U16 Hockey) — Sthembile Zwane

The Rennie Cup (For Most Promising Girls Hockey Player) — Palesa Shezi
