THE “I Am She” Pink Couch show took place over the weekend at Palm Manor in Umtwentweni.

Pink Couch host, Tessa Green invited guests to speak about gender violence, child abuse and rape.

The event was purposely held at night to shed light on a dark topic that, in most cases, is kept silent.

“We covered the amazing work and service that Thuthuzela Care Centre provides as well as the needs of victims who come through the doors,” said Green.

One of the guest interviewed by Green was author Duduzile Ndlovu, a nursing sister at the centre who deals with victims every day.

She has just launched her book Why Hope Matters.

Green thanked her guests Dr Gerald Baldrey (Thuthuzela Care Centre), Captain Giyani (Umzinto Forensic Crime Unit), and other special guests - Michelle Strachan and Ingrid Lisa, who shared their stories.

Green said prior to the evening they collected, through a drive, essentials for the centre and the response was overwhelming.

“A huge shout out to our sponsors, organisations, companies and individuals who supported the drive right through to Pietermaritzburg.”

She said the evening would not have been a success without the support and assistance of her friends.

“A special thanks to Maggie Erasmus for the sponsorship of the venue, Palm Manor, as well as the décor, Estelle Ananiades and Marika’s Bridal Lounge for the catering, The Pamper Girls, Babs Hair Salon, Vees Maintenance for the lucky draw prizes and World of Welding for the sponsorship of sound and cash donations for expenses,” she said.

Green said her message to those affected by abuse, rape and gender violence is to speak out.

Her wish she said, is that everybody shares a little of what they have with those who are hurting.
