2015-11-19 06:00

AN elderly Pietermaritzburg couple were robbed at their rented cottage in Pennington on Sunday, 8 November at 11.15pm.

The man was stabbed in the face and arm.

The suspects robbed them of, inter alia, his cellphone, watch, house keys and gate remote.

It is alleged that the couple, who are in their seventies, were preparing to retire for the night and the man was having a last look around the house through a window when he saw a stranger outside.

He heard a sound in the bedroom upstairs and, on investigating was confronted by a man climbing in through the window.

The burglar guard had been tampered with to gain entry. Attempts by the senior citizen to push the suspect out, were futile.

The suspect, who was armed with a knife, attacked the victim.

Meanwhile, two other suspects were already ransacking the lounge. The suspects fled with the stolen property leaving the man bleeding. The woman was unharmed.

On, Thursday, 12 November, detectives of the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team arrested two suspects in Malangeni. They were linked to the house robbery through forensic evidence found at the crime scene by forensic experts of the Port Shepstone Local Criminal Record Centre.

Accompanied by members of the Umzinto K9 Unit and the Scottburgh Crime Intelligence, the task team raided two homesteads in Malangeni at about 2pm and pounced on the unsuspecting suspects.

They appeared in court on Monday and the charges were withdrawn against the 16-year-old while the case against Vusi Sokuhulu (18) was remanded until 9 December for a bail application hearing.
