IN their continuing fight against crime, SAPS made a number of arrests last week.

On Friday detectives and members from Port Shepstone SAPS went to Bizana in the Eastern Cape where they arrested a 28-year-old male suspect wanted for murder.

In a statement police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the suspect had been on the run since April last year after allegedly stabbing and killing a 27-year-old man in Bhobhoyi.

Another arrest was made on Saturday by six members of provincial drug task team, working under command of Warrant officer Dean Pillay. “During several sting operations in the taxi rank in Port Shepstone and further afield in Gamalakhe and Margate, the team arrested six adult males for dealing in drugs. A total of 118 parcels of dagga, 172 capsules of heroin, 84 Mandrax tablets and 11 pieces of crack cocaine were confiscated. The market value of the drugs is R15 850,” said Wiid

On Sunday, Port Shepstone Public Order Policing (POP) arrested a 29-year-old male in Murchison for being in possession of 108 capsules of heroin.

“When the officers arrested the suspect they took him to his residence where they searched and found an unlicensed Norinco pistol, one magazine and five rounds as well as a laptop, which is suspected to be stolen,” said Wiid.

She said cash totaling R5 960 was also recovered. The value of the drugs is R4 860.

“The same day POP members arrested two other suspects. One was a 64-year-old man from Bhobhoyi, found in possession of parcels of dagga, weighing 10,418kg. The second suspect, 49 years old, was caught in the Port Shepstone CBD with 50 dagga cigarettes weighing 188 grams. The total street value of the dagga is R15 909,” said Wiid.

The suspects appeared in Port Shepstone and Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on various charges.
