Police investigate inquest docket

2016-01-21 06:00

A 70-YEAR-OLD man was reported dead on Monday morning after shooting himself at his home. Margate police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said they received a report about the incident at 10.40am.

“On arrival at the scene police found the deceased in a chair in the garage in a pool of blood. Netcare 911 were called to the scene and confirmed that the man was dead,” said Mfeka.

The man had a gunshot wound on the left side of his head, and the firearm was next to him. It is alleged that the man’s wife was not in the house at the time of the incident.

“The wife was out when the incident happened as she had taken her dogs for a walk on the beach. When she returned [and found her husband] she was shocked.”

The body was then taken to Port Shepstone government mortuary.

“Margate detectives are investigating an inquest docket, but foul play is not suspected at this stage,” said Mfeka. - Supplied.
