HARDING SAPS are investigating a murder which took place there recently.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said a case was opened after the body of a man, with five bullet wounds on it, was found by Harding SAPS last Friday at Kwakuseni Ward in Bashaweni.

The body was identified as that of Marathon Nzama (49) who was taken from his home in KwaNyuswa by a three men dressed in police uniforms on the Thursday night.

A member of the family said the three men came to their home around 9pm looking for the “father of the house”, Nzama, but they met the son instead, held him at gunpoint, assaulted him and asked him to show them where his father’s room was.

The boy then knocked on his parent’s bedroom door and when his mother opened it they demanded that the father go with them.

“The men identified themselves as police from Ezingolweni police station, saying they were there to take the father in for questioning,” said the family member, who wants to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

The men handcuffed the father and dragged him into a vehicle which was around the corner of their road.

“The next thing we heard was the father screaming for help saying the people were not police and they were holding him hostage.”

The member said they never saw the vehicle, they just heard the vehicle speeding away.

The family says they do not know why the father was killed in such a brutal way.

“He was a humble man, he took care of his community, he would never hurt anyone, we really do not know who would want him dead,” said the member.

The family said they are still scared because they do not know what might happen next.

Its alleged that the killing was a result of an old family dispute.
