Police officer attacker remains in custody, no bail granted

2017-03-16 06:03

AFTER his third appearance at Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Monday, police attacker Mpumi Mbono remains in police custody and no bail has been granted for him.

Mbono was arrested after allegedly assaulting off-duty Margate Constable Manqoba Zulu at a Gamalakhe tavern. It is alleged that the two got into an argument, which led to the constable’s attack.

Zulu was in a critical condition in ICU in a Durban Hospital for more than a week, but was later transferred out of ICU after recovering.

The officer has allegedly since been seen in his neighbourhood. Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Mbono’s case was postponed to March 17 as investigations are continuing.
