Port Edward still without water

2015-12-03 06:00

OVER a week has passed and Port Edward residents are still experiencing water interruptions.

A pipe, which burst on 20 November, and then led to more pipe busts, was to blame.

Ugu District Municipality told the Fever that contractors had worked tirelessly to find the leak and to restore water to the area.

Static tanks were allocated and tankers did the rounds to the areas which needed it.

On Saturday, ward councillor for the area, Dave Watson said the break had been fixed and that reservoir level had risen to 45%.

However, another pipe bust on Sunday and Port Edward was left with no water for the eighth day.

Apparently the telementary had also broken, making it impossible for anyone to determine the level of the reservoir.

In eight days, the area had seen seven major pipe breaks, one of which had broken three times.

Watson said a pipeline replacement had to occur soon or else there may be a repeat in the neat future.

“The pipelines are old and need replacing,” he said.

On Tuesday morning some residents were without water again.

“Water tanks are still in place and full, but major intervention is needed to ensure this does not happen again,” he added.
