2017-11-09 06:00

THE Ray Nkonyeni Council said procedures to rename the Port Shepstone Library have been completed.

The council approved the renaming of the library - OR Tambo
Memorial Library - that is under construction in recognition of his contributions to the country.

A statue of the late Oliver
Reginald Tambo will also be erected.

At a media briefing at the municipal council chambers on Tuesday, mayor Cynthia Mqwebu said the legacy of Oliver Tambo, the longest serving president of the ANC, was a symbol of a true democrat, and asked political parties represented in council to embrace the renaming.

“The council unanimously agreed to name the revamped library the OR Tambo Memorial Library,” said Mqwebu.

A construction of the R60 million library will be completed in June 2018.
