Port Shepstone police issue warning over car sale scams

2018-07-19 06:00

PORT Shepstone SAPS has appealed to the community to not fall prey to a scam whereby people purchase cars that they have only seen advertised in newspapers or on the Internet.

In some cases, the buyer has only contacted the seller telephonically, or only met the seller once, and has little or no information about the seller.

The police advise that, if you’re shopping for a new car, look out for fake or misleading dealership advertisements in newspapers. Always read the fine print in any car-related advertisement and before signing a contract for a vehicle purchase or lease.

If you believe the dealer has engaged in false advertising, omitted required disclosures, or otherwise broken the law, file a complaint at a police station.

“Do not make any cash deposits or exchange money into the accounts of people you do not know or have never met,” said Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele. —Supplied.
