NON-PROFIT organisation Noah’s Ark Ministries has been visiting various schools in the region, embarking on a moral regeneration programme to keep pupils motivated and informed. After observing the serious problems of child-headed families as a result of HIV and Aids, families working from afar, parents working long hours, single parents, and other social ills, the programme seeks to bridge the gap between these pupils and those parented in more rounded adult households. The programme is coordinated by Irene Myingwa, who is a teacher by profession as well as a pastor, motivational speaker, and an author. Myingwa has written several books in different languages, four of which are about moral regeneration, which is her passion. In 2018, the organisation operated in Gamalakhe and was implemented in several primary schools; namely Ohlangeni, Sithembinkosi, Gamalakhe Junior Primary and Paddock as well as the following high schools; Commercial High School, Olwandle, Vezubuhle and Galeni.“Principals, teachers, and pupils have welcomed this programme with joy and they are extremely grateful that their schools have been the first to benefit. “This NPO works hand in hand with different departments in these school visits, including Social Development, Correctional Services, SAPS, and occasionally the Health Department,” said Myingwa. She said more emphasis has been placed on school drop-outs and the importance and the benefits of being a professional or a skilled person.“We further prepare a boy and a girl child for the future and a bigger slot is given to the topic about education as the speakers share the platform. “The NPO is also occasionally invited by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality to speak at certain occasions. We work closely with the wellness unit. It is our wish to reach more schools in 2019. “As an NPO, we are extremely grateful for the support we continuously receive from the office of the Department of Education under Mr Wood in Gamalakhe. Without their approval and support we would not have gone this far,” said Myingwa.
